Elder – Bruce Olsen
Bruce was raised in a unchurched home, and his wife, Mary Ann, was raised Catholic. They met through Bruce’s father, who worked with Mary Ann’s brother at Rockwell International on the space shuttle program. Bruce and Mary Ann were married in 1967 and have three children, Eric, Chris and Kim, who have blessed them with four grandchildren.
While working at Ford Aerospace in 1981, Bruce asked his boss and close friend (who he knew to be a Christian) how to read the Bible in an organized way. With only a curiosity, he began Ryrie’s through the Bible in a year reading plan. Sometime in the summer of 1981, he realized he was a sinner and needed salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ. After he shared his newfound faith with his boss, he learned his boss had been praying for him for the entire 15 years they had worked together.
When he shared his new Savior with his wife, she was defensive of her Catholic upbringing, but she soon came to faith. Their children accepted Jesus while in high school and were baptized.
They found RBC through the phone book while searching for aConservativeBaptistChurch, and first attended in August, 1992. After that first Sunday, they were pretty sure it was going to be home. Then, in November, 1992, they transferred their membership to RBC.
Bruce served as treasurer from 1992-1993, men’s ministries for a few years in the 1990’s and AWANA from 2001 to 2009. He was asked to serve on the elder board in 2003.
Mary Ann is famous for her organization of the annual Thanksgiving potluck, has served in AWANA and helps where needed.
Bruce enjoys woodworking, stained glass and reading mostly history and biography. Mary Ann has a bookkeeping and income tax business, enjoys quilting and teaching quilting. She has had several of the RBC ladies and young girls come to her for lessons.
