Ministry Synopsis

In Asia where there are 935 million Hindus, 746 million Muslims, 394 million in Chinese folk religion, 376 million Buddhists, 266 million Christians, 200 million irreligious, and 100 million in traditional religions, Roger and Joanne help develop training programs to equip Christian workers to use Scripture materials in creative ways--including Bible Storying and media (audio, video, visuals).  These approaches are showing good impact for both illiterates and literates and are helping Christians gain practical knowledge of the Bible. These creative methods are also especially suitable for the places where typical missionary work is not possible.

About Wycliffe Bible Translators

Today more than 300 million people do not have the Bible in their own language. Wycliffe’s vision is to see the Bible accessible to all people in the language they understand best. To make this vision a reality, Wycliffe also focuses on literacy development, community development and church partnerships. We are men and women, young and old, from many nations and of many colors and cultures. We come from many different churches and denominations, but we all worship one Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Unified in our calling, we pray for and work towards the day when every language community will have an equal opportunity to discover God’s truth in the Bible.

More Interesting Tidbits from the Greens

The most challenging part of our ministry, though, is raising our five children in a ministry setting. All of the children were born in the Philippines. Our oldest son, Nathan, is almost 18, and 14 years of his life have been spent in the Philippines. Our children have had the benefit of strong support from the missionary community. Their favorite memories are of the friends they've made among other children of missionaries and the adults whose primary ministry has been to educate missionary children. In these teenage years, the older four are comparing life in the Philippines to life in the U.S., comparing our lifestyle to lifestyles of other Christians, and comparing secular music with Christian choruses they've heard all their lives. We see them looking beyond what they've seen in their own home and making choices about what they will and will not adopt. So these are years for long talks. There are character improvements we would like to see in each child, but one thing we are grateful for so far is that not one is turning his or her back on God. We try to make Scripture reading a daily part of our lives. One day, one child challenged us that, “It doesn't say anywhere in the Bible that you should read your Bible every day!” Having that as a backdrop, we're now taking a look at Psalm 119. Hopefully, this child will see that reading a Bible everyday is not nearly enough. God wants more than that. Please pray that we would be wise parents through these years and that each child would be seized by God's great affection."

Happiness is:
  • Nathan when he brought home his drum set.
  • Daniel when he got his cast off.
  • Juliette when she's reading a Karen Kingsbury book.
  • Katie when she figures out how something works
  • Esther when she's sitting in her mom's lap
