Brad Braley

Bio

Brad Braley and his wife, Joyce both come from strong Christian families and placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior early in life through the work and witness of family members. Both of their fathers were Christian school administrators, and in fact, worked together as part of an association of Christian schools long before Brad and Joyce ever met. They both attended Christian elementary and high schools, and both eventually graduated from Biola University (Brad in 1982, Joyce in 1985).

They started attending Rancho Baptist Church in 1990, shortly after moving into the Temecula area in late 1989 and upon the recommendation of their former pastor at Whittier Hills Baptist Church in Whittier, California. When they came, they recognized the Worship Director and his wife who were serving at the time, and who were the son-in-law and daughter of one of Joyce’s music teachers when she was a child. Resulting from that existing relationship, they were immediately plugged into the music ministry at RBC. This was also at the time when RBC was building its current campus, and Brad was asked to help with designing and installing the sound system in the worship building. He had just finished the same type of project at Whittier Hills after reconstruction of their main building following a fire. With friends to connect with, and work to do in ministry, it wasn’t long before they decided to transfer their membership to RBC.

They both continued to stay involved with the ministries of RBC; Joyce started to play piano as part of the team that leads in worship on Sunday mornings; both participated in choirs and special music; on occasion, Brad would teach the Sunday School class they had joined, and eventually stepped into that role on a more or less ongoing basis; they volunteered to lead one of the Home Fellowship groups when RBC started that ministry; Brad was nominated and approved to join the elder board; Joyce helped to form a leadership team with other women to build the Women’s Ministry program. In 2000, Brad was asked to chair, and Joyce was asked to participate in a pastoral search committee which God used to guide the church to call Matt Hsieh as Senior Pastor in August, 2001. Brad still serves on the elder board and is leading a Christian Worldview class; Joyce still participates with the Sunday morning worship team and is involved in the Discipleship Ministry.

The Lord graciously brought their one son, Andrew James (AJ), to the family through adoption just a few days after his birth in May, 1999. Brad and Joyce had been praying for children for many years, and AJ is a great answer to the fervent prayers of family and friends. Joyce enjoys several activities including scrapbooking, piano, singing, and people-watching! Brad enjoys reading (literature and books on apologetics), most things which have gadget-appeal, and is known to get excited on occasion over Los Angeles Lakers basketball. They thoroughly enjoy the beauty and grandeur of Yosemite National Park in California and get there whenever possible.
